Is this the same as Google Workspace retention?
No. Retention, trash and version-history features can help with short-term recovery, but they are not the same as an independent off-site backup copy with its own schedule and retention settings.
What does the 1 TB allowance cover?
The allowance is backup storage per protected mailbox, pooled across the domain, and can cover that user data across Gmail, Drive and Shared Drives.
Can a single email or file be restored?
Yes. The service is designed for granular restores, so individual messages, calendar items or files can be recovered without restoring everything.
Does this replace server or VPS backups?
